Sergey Ilyushin Biography
Sergey Vladimirovich Ilyushin (Russian: Серге́й Владимирович Илю́шин; March 30, 1894 – February 9, 1977) was a Russian aircraft designer who founded the Ilyushin aircraft design bureau.

Born in Dilialevo, Russia, he became interested in aviation in 1910 and was qualified as a pilot in World War I. After obtaining a degree in engineering from the Air Force Academy in 1926, he started designing aircraft. His Ilyushin Il-2 fighter and Ilyushin Il-4 bomber were used extensively in World War II. After the war, his commercial airliners, such as the Ilyushin Il-18 and Ilyushin Il-62, saw extensive use.

On his passing in 1977, he was interred in Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.
